Available threshold levels
Shopify Risk Analysis returns one of four risk levels per order: HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, or NONE. Alva Digital Downloads collapses these into three operational modes, set via two checkboxes in Settings:
- Off (no fraud queue) — fraud checks disabled. Every paid order delivers immediately, regardless of risk score.
- Medium and above —
HIGHandMEDIUMorders queue;LOWandNONEdeliver immediately. The default when fraud protection is on, and the more aggressive option: catches more fraud, more false positives. - High only — only
HIGHorders queue; everything else delivers. Lenient: less review work, more risk.
Set your threshold
- Open the Alva admin, click Settings in the left navigation, and scroll to the Security section.
- Toggle Enable Fraud Protection on or off. With it on, toggle Allow Medium Risk Orders to switch between Medium-and-above (off) and High-only (on).
- Click Save. The new threshold applies to every paid order from that moment forward.
Alva admin → Settings → Security section. Highlight the two checkboxes: "Enable Fraud Protection" (checked) and "Allow Medium Risk Orders" (unchecked). Show the help text under each. Save bar visible at the top. No real shop data visible.
What changes when you bump it
A lower threshold queues more orders: more manual-review work on the Flagged Orders page, fewer fraud losses through the door. A higher threshold queues fewer orders: less work, more chargeback exposure on borderline cases. Shopify still scores every order regardless of where you set it.
Alva admin → Flagged Orders → Active tab. Show 4–5 example pending rows with order IDs, flagged dates, risk-level badges (a mix of HIGH and MEDIUM), and Approve / Reject buttons. No real customer data visible.
Recommended starting point
Medium and above is the default once fraud protection is on, and it works for most stores. Switch to High only if the queue is overwhelming and most flagged orders end up approved anyway. Stay on Medium and above if you sell high-margin items, ship license keys that cannot be reclaimed, or have absorbed fraud losses recently.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing the threshold re-check past orders?
No. The threshold applies only to paid orders received after Save. Past orders keep their original decision. To re-evaluate a past order, use the Flagged Orders page or the Order detail page.
What threshold do POS orders use?
POS orders skip fraud checks entirely, regardless of the threshold. The fraud queue applies only to online paid orders. POS sales are delivered immediately on payment.
Can I disable fraud checks without losing the queue history?
Yes. Turning Enable Fraud Protection off stops new orders from entering the queue, but the Flagged Orders page and the fraud action log keep their existing rows. Pending orders already in the queue still need an approve or reject decision before downloads release.
