A day in the life

How a producer's Shopify + Alva workflow actually runs.

08:40 · STUDIO

Bounce a 4.2 GB stem pack.

Drop the WAV folder into Alva's uploader. Alva uploads it to Cloudflare R2 in the background. A 4.2 GB multi-track pack finishes while the producer makes coffee. Zip-on-demand builds the delivery bundle the first time a buyer hits the download page — subsequent buyers get the cached ZIP instantly.

09:15 · CATALOGUE

Bind the pack to a Shopify product.

Open the Shopify product editor, pick the Alva product-mapping tab, attach the stem pack plus a separate MIDI-only variant. Tag each variant with a licence pool: "Non-exclusive MP3 lease", "Non-exclusive WAV trackouts", "Exclusive rights". Alva pulls keys from the matching pool per variant at checkout.

14:02 · SALE

First buyer pays — 1.4s later, inbox.

A rapper in Atlanta buys the exclusive trackouts on Shopify. Alva runs the fraud check in parallel with link-signing, pulls the next exclusive key from the pool, emails the buyer a branded delivery, and shows the same link on the Shopify thank-you page and in the customer account. The producer sees the sale land in the Alva dashboard while still in the studio.

22:30 · GIG

Sell at the merch table with POS.

Back at a live show. The producer runs Shopify POS on an iPad. A fan wants the sample pack plus a USB stick. The POS ring-up captures the fan's email; Alva bypasses fraud review for POS orders and fires the download link to the fan's phone before they walk away.

What producers actually use

Every Alva feature, re-angled for a producer's catalogue.

01 / 06File size

20 GB per file. Stem packs fit.

A 24-bit / 48 kHz multi-track stem pack of a 4-minute beat with 18 stems and dry+wet bounces can push 4–6 GB. Alva accepts each individual file up to 20 GB — no chunking, no splitting into parts, no "WeTransfer link in the email". Files are served from a global CDN with unlimited bandwidth, so a buyer in Berlin pulls at line speed whether they're the 1st buyer or the 500th.

02 / 06Commercial rights

License keys per sale.

Upload a pool of licence codes (or let Alva auto-generate them). Tag a Shopify product variant to the matching pool — non-exclusive MP3 lease, non-exclusive WAV, trackouts, exclusive. Every purchase pulls the next unused code, emails it to the buyer, logs it against the order, and marks the pool down. Refund on a chargeback? The key auto-revokes.

03 / 06Made-to-order

Custom beats, delivered from the admin.

A buyer wants a custom beat — 92 BPM, A minor, dark trap, reference track attached. Collect the brief at checkout. The order routes into a production queue in the Shopify admin. The producer attaches the final mix to that specific order in Alva, hits send, and Alva fires the branded download email automatically. No separate Dropbox link, no copy-paste.

04 / 06Fraud protection

Stop stolen-card orders stealing your catalogue.

Sample packs are a prime chargeback target — stolen cards, re-uploaders, mass buys before the card is flagged. Alva scores every order against 40+ signals via Shopify's Risk API. High-risk orders auto-hold before the file leaves. Approve or reject in one click. Across the Alva merchant base, the false-positive rate sits at 0.4%.

05 / 06POS

In-person sales from the merch table.

Selling USB packs at a gig? Ring up a Shopify POS order on an iPad, capture the fan's email, and Alva delivers the digital bundle to their inbox instantly. POS orders skip fraud review — the money is already in the till. Producers who tour or play conventions can offer a physical + digital bundle without a second checkout flow.

06 / 06Branded mail

Emails from your producer name, not Shopify's.

On paid plans, send delivery emails from a custom domain you control — packs@producername.com, not shop@myshopify.com. Buyers see the producer's brand in their inbox, deliverability improves, and the email template carries your logo, palette, and 14 dynamic variables including buyer first name, pack title, and licence key.

Pricing, producer-sized

What plan does a real producer catalogue need?

A producer selling 20 sample packs at ~150 MB each needs roughly 3 GB of storage. Every paid plan on Alva ships with unlimited bandwidth and a 14-day free trial, so the right plan is the one whose storage ceiling matches the catalogue. Most small producers fit comfortably on the Basic plan; a label managing dozens of artists usually grows into Pro.

PLANPRICEFITS
Free · 1.5 GB$0A debut release with 5 packs or fewer, stems kept to MP3-only previews.
Basic · 35 GB$8.99/moA producer with 20 sample packs at 150 MB each (~3 GB used) — room for 10× the catalogue. Licence keys, fraud, custom email domain included.
Pro · 350 GB$18.99/moA catalogue of 200 packs with full WAV stems, plus trackout variants. Recommended for producers shipping stems at 24-bit / 48 kHz.
Enterprise · 1.5 TB$28.99/moA label with multiple signed artists, each shipping stems, multitracks and session files. 24/7 support, dedicated onboarding.

All plans include unlimited bandwidth, unlimited orders, unlimited downloads, AI fraud protection, license keys, made-to-order files, multi-channel delivery, and Shopify POS. The 14-day trial begins only after a first live order — not at install.

Migration path

Leaving Bandcamp, BeatStars, or Koji? Here is the 4-step move.

  1. 01

    Export your customer list.

Pull the email list of existing buyers from Bandcamp (Stats → Export), BeatStars (Fans → Export), or Koji. Import into Shopify customers as a CSV. Mark them as "tag: migrated-from-bandcamp" for a re-buy coupon later.

  2. 02

    Re-upload the catalogue into Alva.

Drag your sample-pack folders into Alva's uploader. Files up to 20 GB each. Use CSV import for large catalogues — one row per pack with file path, product SKU, and licence pool.

  3. 03

    Bind files to Shopify products.

Create a Shopify product for each pack — or each beat variant. Use the Alva tab in the product editor to attach the file, set licence pools per variant, and configure download limits. An audio-preview app handles the listening experience Bandcamp used to provide.

  4. 04

Email the old list with a re-buy coupon.

Send a one-time "we moved to Shopify" email with a time-limited discount. Most producers see the bulk of their Bandcamp list migrate within 30 days. Any buyer who had previously paid for exclusive rights can be issued a free access coupon on a per-order basis.

Typical merchant feedback

What producers say, paraphrased from App Store reviews.

"Finally ditched the WeTransfer-in-an-email workflow. My stem pack is 3.8 GB and Alva just ships it — the buyer clicks once and it's there."

— Paraphrased from an App Store review · hip-hop producer, US

"Licence keys per variant was the thing that locked it in. Non-exclusive, trackouts, exclusive — three pools, zero manual work per sale."

— Typical merchant feedback · beat-lease producer, UK

"Used POS at a gig last month — fans paid, got the pack before they left the table. Nobody asked me where the download link was."

— Paraphrased from an App Store review · electronic artist, DE
FAQ for producers

Questions producers actually ask.

Yes. Use Alva's license key tags to map Shopify product variants to different licence tiers — non-exclusive MP3 lease, non-exclusive WAV, trackouts, exclusive. Each purchase pulls the next unique key from the matching pool, emails it to the buyer, and logs it against the order. If the buyer upgrades to exclusive later, revoke the old keys and reissue from the Shopify admin.
Individual files up to 20 GB are supported on every paid plan, which covers multi-track WAV stem packs at 24-bit / 48 kHz comfortably. Files are served from a global CDN with unlimited bandwidth, so a 4 GB stem pack downloads at the buyer's full line speed. Packs of files are delivered as a single ZIP built in the background — buyers see a ready-to-click download from the first second on the thank-you page.
Yes. Most producers leaving Bandcamp import their existing customer email list into Shopify, re-upload their catalogue into Alva (drag-and-drop or CSV), bind each release to a Shopify product, and email the old list with a coupon to re-buy on the new store. Alva covers the delivery side — Bandcamp's listening preview and artist-page experience are replaced with a Shopify theme plus an audio-preview app of the merchant's choice.
Yes. Alva's made-to-order flow collects the brief at checkout (key, BPM, reference track, vocal file), routes the order into a production queue in the Shopify admin, and lets the producer upload the final mix against that specific order. The moment the file is attached, Alva fires the delivery email automatically — the buyer does not need a separate Dropbox link.
Yes. Alva supports Shopify POS. A producer selling USB drives, vinyl, or bundle deals at a gig can ring up a digital pack at the POS terminal, capture the buyer's email on the same screen, and Alva delivers the download automatically while the buyer walks to the next merch table. POS orders skip fraud review and send immediately.
Alva applies per-order signed URLs that expire in 60 seconds, IP-restricted downloads, and a configurable download-count cap per purchase. Combined with fraud protection that auto-holds risky orders, the common piracy vectors — mass buying on stolen cards, scraping, sharing a single link — are materially harder. Re-uploading a bought pack is ultimately out of any seller's control, but Alva's DownloadLog shows exactly which buyer, IP and timestamp hit each file.
